Helping young people to keep going and keep growing

Counselling for teenagers in Chesham

Growing up is a tough gig

Being young doesn’t always mean that you’re free of worry and responsibility.  In fact, for many teenagers and young adults, the pressure to grow up can feel overwhelming at times.

Adolescence is a rocky road full of social pressure, physical change and big decisions. It’s jam packed full of academic worries, hormones and sexuality, family dynamics and smartphones. That’s a lot of stuff going on!

Counselling for teenagers in Chesham

It’s not uncommon for teenagers to struggle with feelings of low self-esteem, low confidence, depression, stress or anxiety as they try to establish their identities and independence.  My counselling service for teenagers is designed specifically to help young people deal with these challenges.

I also offer coaching for young adults in Chesham who are struggling to cope with the pressures of higher education or are preparing for the world of work.

It’s good to talk

As an experienced, CRB checked counsellor and coach, I use a mixture of techniques and talking therapies to really get under the skin of what’s going on.

My counselling sessions for young people are a good combination of counselling and coaching.  We don’t just dwell on identifying what’s wrong and leave it there. Instead, I positively nurture and guide the young people I work with, so they feel able to take action and achieve a definite change in mindset and behaviour.

I have a relaxed and interactive style (some might say ‘young at heart’!) which appeals to young people who might struggle to feel understood elsewhere.  Read more About Me and My Approach.

“Jan's sharp, witty and authentic style resonated with my daughter and she gradually felt she could be completely herself when talking to her.”
Parent of 14 year old

Through my partnership with Action 4 Youth, I also work regularly with groups of young people aged 16 – 25, to tackle issues of anxiety, mood swings, confidence building, communication skills, work readiness and managing stress.
